Losing Day - Total Net PnL: -$2,624.04
Note:
Very strange market structure today—there were multiple spike-and-channel patterns, lots of overshoots, and price action just didn’t seem to follow the usual rules. It made reading the market especially difficult. I took one trade, which didn’t work out, but I’m still glad I followed through on my rule to take at least one valid setup a day.
The trade I took was a higher low that confirmed a second entry long after two legs of correction. At the time, the context showed a spike and channel, but both the structure and the 21 EMA were very flat. Still, I took a chance, thinking that since price had pushed back above the EMA, we might get a retest of the highs after the breakout. The signal bar was small, so my risk was limited to just 2.25 points, which made the setup more attractive despite the weak momentum. Unfortunately, the market was extremely slow, and there just wasn’t enough energy to push the move higher.
Looking back, the biggest issue was the lack of momentum. Even though the setup had some structure, slow days like this require extra caution. With more experience, I’ll learn when it’s better to stay out—or just end the day early—rather than trying to force trades in these conditions.
The positive takeaway is that I did take a trade. I’m actively trying to build consistency by executing at least one setup per day, ideally earlier in the session. The longer I wait, the harder it gets to fight off the FOMO. So while the result wasn’t ideal, the process and mindset are definitely heading in the right direction.
Biggest Lesson:
The biggest lesson today is that even though the trade was a loser, it felt good to take a trade. I need to keep pushing myself to get at least one or two setups in every day. The math only works over a series of trades—if I cherry-pick too much, I’ll miss out on the edge playing out over time. As Mark Douglas says, you can’t know in advance which trades will work. You just need to take the valid ones when they come.
