Special Event Day:

🗓️ FOMC Statement / Press Conference

Notes:

FOMC day. When I started, the market was in a trading range showing signs of slight bearish imbalance, so I was watching for a possible breakout to the downside and maybe the start of a bearish trend. Nothing formed, and prices drifted back into the range. The market was extremely slow, clearly waiting for the FOMC statement later in the session. The higher time frames were all very bullish.

After we moved back into the range, I took a chance on a failed 2nd Entry Short (F2ES). It wasn’t a great setup, and bars were pretty stacked. But I gave it a shot. The trade stalled and never took off, so I closed it at breakeven. After that, I mostly waited for the FOMC release. The initial reaction was muted, but once Powell started speaking, the market took a sharp nose dive and became extremely volatile — completely untradeable for me. That was the end of the day.

Biggest Lesson:

I keep telling myself to take FOMC days off, and I really need to put that into effect. The price action before the release is slow and choppy, and the volatility after is wild. It’s pretty much a waste of time — better to sit it out and come back fresh the next day.
