Notes:

When I got to the charts, there was a strong spike down with a small gap from the overnight close. We then got a strong higher low (HL) Major Trend Reversal (MTR), so I entered long. In hindsight, this wasn’t the best setup since there was a real chance that the strong bearish leg down would get a retest — and it did. The trade reversed on me.

When prices reached the measured move of the first leg down, I added one more contract. I had only entered with one initially in case this exact situation occurred. Prices stalled for quite some time around that measured move and then continued lower. After multiple scale-ins, I finally managed to get out around breakeven. It was stressful and definitely risky, but I think it’s valuable to experience that kind of pressure. When prices move against you, staying calm and managing risk can make the difference — it’s possible to work back to at least breakeven if handled correctly. Still, it’ll be a long time before I’d ever attempt something like this on my PA accounts or with my own funds.

After another retest at the lows, we finally got a bullish reversal. There was a HL MTR, but the signal bar was bearish, and I would have needed to enter on a double-bar entry — I passed on that one. Later, we got an H1 buy setup, but after four consecutive bearish bars, I didn’t trust it. That was the end of the session for me.

Biggest Lesson:

Scaling in can work in theory, but it’s mentally draining and risky if context isn’t perfect. I’m glad this was only on a few evaluation accounts. Still, I find it fun and valuable to learn more about scaling in and to understand how it affects both the trade and my mindset.
