Notes:

The day started with a decent bear breakout bar. It had some tail, but we were right at the top of the Globex overnight range, so I took a chance that we could rotate back down toward the Globex low. That would have been around 2R based on my initial risk, so the idea made sense.

Prices stalled around 1R, about +8.5 pts, and with it being New Year’s Eve and volume looking thin, I decided to take it off there. I was fine with that decision — no reason to sit through slow, holiday price action and hope for more.

Right after I exited, we got a strong bull bar pulling back, but after a few more bars, prices did in fact continue lower and eventually reached the Globex low, just as expected.

After that move, prices formed three legs down and a wedge bottom. I entered a HL Major Trend Reversal, betting on prices rotating back into the range. It was a risky entry since I was buying right into the breakout area. When prices bounced right into the EMA and stalled, I exited at breakeven.

After this, prices formed a very sideways bull flag. When we finally got a bull bar closing above the EMA, I entered long again. Once again, prices stalled with no real momentum, so I exited that trade at breakeven as well.

Biggest Lesson:

Holiday sessions like New Year’s Eve are all about managing expectations. The reads weren’t bad, but the lack of momentum meant follow-through was limited. Taking quick profits, scratching trades at breakeven, and not forcing anything was the right approach today.
